Saddle Creek Transportation Goes Wireless

Lakeland, Fla., Oct. 16, 2007 — Improved on-time performance, enhanced visibility and reduced operational costs are key benefits that customers will experience, thanks to a new investment at Saddle Creek Corp. The third-party logistics company's subsidiary, Saddle Creek Transportation Inc., has installed wireless communications in its fleet of trucks nationwide.

"This wireless technology puts a wealth of shipment information at our fingertips," said Mike DelBovo, senior vice president of Saddle Creek Transportation Inc. "It allows us to do a better job of pinpointing on-time service performance and gives us better knowledge of truck locations and transit times to help increase efficiencies and improve shipment visibility. It also helps us to track pallet returns electronically for better pallet accountability."

The new communication system provides instant access to vehicle, driver, and load information for real-time shipment visibility. Each tractor and owner / operator now has a computer installed in the vehicle that enables two-way cellular communication without the need for cell phones. The computers are connected to Saddle Creek via the PeopleNet Wireless Fleet System. The wireless network offers back-office ASP and integrated solutions that blend seamlessly with Saddle Creek's Transportation Management System (TMS).

Saddle Creek associates are able to view location, mapping, messaging and vehicle performance information and run various online management reports. Drivers use the in-vehicle equipment to receive load assignments and work orders, report status, routing and instructions.

The system also helps to reduce transportation costs through improved routing efficiency, vehicle performance and maintenance, fuel optimization and dispatcher efficiency.

"This investment is one more way that Saddle Creek is demonstrating its commitment to service excellence and best-of-breed technology," said DelBovo. "We'll do whatever it takes to give our customers a competitive edge."
